Fiber Optic – Action Required

Good day homeowners,

We are exploring the possibility of bringing fiber internet to our community. Several companies have proposed different plans and services, but the board has not yet made a decision or committed to a specific provider. Before moving forward, we would like to assess the level of interest from homeowners.

Please take a moment to complete the survey. We appreciate your time and feedback.

There are some key differences between the fiber providers:

  1. Community-wide Fiber Installation: Some companies will only run fiber through the community if all homeowners participate. This would mean the HOA would include the basic cost of service in your HOA dues, regardless of whether you choose to sign up. The advantage is that all homeowners would have access to higher speeds and additional services, but it would also raise the HOA dues for everyone, whether or not you use the service.
  2. Individual Accounts with No Commitment: Other providers are offering individual accounts with no requirement to sign up. However, these firms do need a 80% interest level from homeowners to move forward. This option doesn’t require a commitment, just an expression of interest.

As a community, it’s difficult for us to make a decision without a clear understanding of homeowners’ interest.

Why is this important?

  • More Options: Having more options for internet service is always beneficial.
  • Reliability: Fiber internet offers more reliable speeds, ensuring you get the speed you’re paying for.
  • Home Value: Many potential buyers now expect fiber internet to be available, which can increase property value.
  • Flexibility: In the past, during a storm, our community had power but no cable service. With fiber, we wouldn’t be tied to one provider like Comcast, giving us more flexibility in both cable and internet choices.

Some of the companies we have contacted offer hookups with no installation fees. Please note that service fees will vary depending on the provider and the services you select.

We appreciate your input and look forward to hearing from you!
